The partnership between Clayton Meade (of Implements of Hell and Cordyceps) and Larry Wang (of Gorepot, Maggot Colony, Coprocephalic, etc., etc., etc...) is one that was surely founded high up in slamming heaven where giant spiders gnaw in severed heads and the streets are paved with rotting human corpses. The pair, who bear remarkably uncanny resemblances to eachother, banded together from continents away to bring us a monstrous 12 track album titled 'Rampant Infantile Strangulation' that is a savage attack on the senses. They've followed the standard template for slamming death metal songwriting and have embellished in some places with qualities similar to groups like Cranial Osteotomy and Embryectomy with a punching guitar tone and the low and slow, breakdown-like slams. Where this project really shines is in the vocal performance. With Clayton and Larry both sporting wicked pipes, it's no surprise that they've shared responsibilities behind the microphone and the result is something truly spectacular. The two play back and forth with each other, interchanging patterns and techniques, creating a wealth of variation and depth with noxious gutturals like a churning, rotten stew of death. In the traditional fashion, the handful of samples and overall imagery of the album are gorey and discomforting, just how we like it.
'Rampant Infantile Strangulation' is a blast to listen to the whole way through with enough catchy, brutal slams to make picking any favorites almost impossible. Give Umbilical Asphyxia a listen, or die old and full of regret.
